Long time readers will know that I love the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. One of the main topics that he wrote about with great passion and insight is: morality.

But he does this in a very unusual way. You see, Nietzsche is not a philosopher who wants to convince you of anything. He doesn’t want you to think, feel or act like him. He doesn’t believe that he has a mortgage on the truth, especially not moral truth.

In fact, in my opinion, almost of all his writing has one purpose. He doesn’t want to convince you of something. He just wants to knock you off balance. If you are comfortable that you have the truth, that you know how to live well, that there are no gaps or problems or contradictions in your own views - then he’s the one who wants to shake you up.

And so he says a lot of really outrageous things. It would be a mistake to think that he believes these things, or that he wants you to believe them. He just wants to get you motivated, to get you moving. To get you questioning a…
