This is the final post in my Tantric Conversations series. In the previous four posts, I have put the classical Tantric philosophy of medieval India in conversation with spirituality, religion, morality and science.
Today we come to a controversial topic: Tantra in conversation with Buddhism. I am not expert enough in Buddhism to answer this question properly. Here there are a myriad of historical and philosophical connections that I have only just scratched the surface of.
In fact, I’m sure that many Provocations subscribers will know a lot more about this than I do. I’m equally sure that many of you will have a strong reaction to this post. And so I have included comment buttons at key moments. Feel free to let me know what you think and feel.1
So this is where I’m at. I am deeply attracted to the Tantric traditions of India. But I am implacably hostile to Buddhism, or at least, the Buddhism that I have encountered this far. For many people this will seem inconsistent or even hypocri…
